A recent battle she engaged in was over development of the Queen West “triangle.” Artists who occupy or occupied studios there are being driven out by a condo development including (in a nasty irony) a site called the Bohemian Embassy.
Her most recent work, Once Near Water: Notes from the Scaffolding Archive, alludes to this phenomenon.
“The work deals with this city and its development and a neighbourhood that’s under threat,” says Frenkel.
